Bad Effects of TV Programs

TV Programs give some bad effects to education, especially, for children. For one result, children often become lazy because they enjoy with program in TV. For another result, Children often follow what is seen on TV, and in fact they bring into being them style. Furthermore, Children lack of social interaction caused them beloved of TV program than they social interaction. And the last, TV make them poor of knowledge and less alert during in school, not attracted during in school.TV program not only give good effect, but in reality, TV gives more bad effect on children especially in education aspect.

To begin with, children often become lazy because they enjoy with program in TV. TV viewing is a sedentary activity, and has been proven to be a significant factor in childhood obesity. According to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada almost one in four Canadian children, between seven and 12, is obese. Time spent in front of the TV is often at the expense of more active pastimes. Moreover, to give perspective on just how much violence kids see on TV, consider this: the average American child will witness 200,000 violent acts on television by age 18. Kids may become desensitized to violence and more aggressive. Indeed, children often become lazy, for example they do not pray on time. For another example they do not take a bath soon and they do not study their lessons, because they better choose with watching TV. Therefore, if they enjoy with program TV they will often become lazy. (Donate, 2010)

Furthermore, bad effect of TV programs also make the children often follow what is seen on TV, and in fact they bring into being them style. TV is full of programs and commercials that depict risky behaviours (such as drinking alcohol, doing drugs, smoking cigarettes, and having premarital sex) as cool, fun, and exciting. And often, there's no discussion about the consequences of those actions. For example, studies have shown that teens who watch lots of sexual content on TV are more likely to initiate intercourse or participate in other sexual activities earlier than peers who don't watch sexually explicit shows. Alcohol ads on TV have actually increased over the last few years and more underage kids are being exposed to them than ever. A recent study by the Centre on Alcohol Marketing and Youth (CAMY) found that youth exposure to alcohol ads on TV increased by 30% from 2001 to 2006. And although they have banned cigarette ads on television, kids and teens can still see plenty of people smoking on programs and movies airing on TV. This kind of "product placement" makes behaviours like smoking and drinking alcohol seem acceptable. In fact, kids who watch 5 or more hours of TV per day are far more likely to begin smoking cigarettes than those who watch less than the recommended 2 hours a day. So, children often follow what is seen on TV, for example they are Consumptive. For another example they imitate bad behaviour and they use bad languages. So, do not let children watching TV too much because it’s will be effect for them behaviour. (Donate, 2010)

Next, Children lack of social interaction caused them beloved of TV program than they social interaction. TV as a causal factor of descent children’s achievement, TV takes away the time that children need to develop important skills like language, reading, social and emotional skills. Language is only learned through interaction with other people when talking and listening which used in the context of real life. Children’s language skills are not improved by passively listening to the TV. Reading requires much more thinking than television, and we know that reading fosters children’s healthy brain development. Children who growing up in families in which the TV is on always or most of the time spend less time reading and being read to, and are less likely to be able to read. “TV viewing takes away time from reading and improving reading skills through practice” (Comstock, 1991). “Children watching cartoons and entertainment television during pre-school years have poorer pre-reading skills at age 5.” (Macbeth, 1996). Also, “children who watch entertainment TV are also less likely to read books and other print media.”(Wright & Huston, 1995). When children play, they actively learning about how the world work and wire their brain by experimenting with cause and effect. For example when interacts with people, he meets his emotional milestones. Indeed, many Children lack of social interaction like they just stay at home, they do not play with their friends, and they do not go to the mosque. Therefore, TV keeps children away from these activities. Note that when children smile at the TV, the TV does not smile back. This may affect them socially and psychologically. (Kurn, 2009)

The last, TV make them poor of intelligence, less alert during in school, and leads to mental laziness. The more television that children watch, the less investment that they put in the mental effort required to master academic skills. Instead, they watch television programs that are entertaining and easy to understand. As a result, children are not likely to engage in activities that require intellectual functioning, such as reading.” A low level of mental effort is elicited by television viewing and eventually leads to a tendency to expend little mental effort required to read or to solve arithmetic problems (Suedfeld, Little, Rank, Rank, & Ballard, 1986)”. Children who watch too much TV tend to work less on their homework. When doing homework with TV on the background, children tend to retain less skill and information. If children lose sleep because of TV, they become less alert during the day. As a consequence, children have poor performance in school. (Kurn, 2009)

To conclude, watching TV is really a big waste of time and gives bad effect on children. They watch TV for hours and do not realize how much time is wasted. TV can freezing children’s mind and obstruct children from exercising initiative, being intellectually challenged, thinking analytically, and using his imagination. TV also leads children’s mental laziness, which may hinder academic achievement that requires more active intellectual efforts. Therefore, children should be monitor the content of TV programming and set viewing limits to ensure that your kids don't spend too much time parked in front of the TV.
